Dash through pristine, white wilderness under the northern lights and icy, dark woods across the edge of the arctic circle to Northern Sweden, and hear nothing but the rushing of your sled and the paws of your team of huskies racing through the crisp snow. Dog sledding fulfils an escapist fantasy for many, but it is also an ideal method of exploration in a varied landscape. Huskies have unbelievable stamina and are able travel for hours without slowing. A visitor can spend days travelling from lodge to lodge past icy lakes and wonderful mountain landscapes, and develop a bond with their team of dogs that is as memorable as the scenery itself. Skijoring is an even more interactive mode of husky travel available to visitors, based on the idea of skiing with harnessed dogs. It is rapidly growing in popularity due to the minimal equipment, high manoeuverability and closer involvement with the animals, and locals can be seen practising the sport with their own pet dogs.
