Making the most of the good conditions between the Niagara Escarpment, Lake Eire and Lake Ontario, the Niagara wine region is known for it’s cool climate wines, especially it’s signature Icewine, a dessert wine made from Vidal and Riesling grapes. Other cool climate grape varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc are also grown with great success. Some of Niagara’s notable producers include Inniskillin and Reif Estate, but there are over 50 wineries in the region to taste from. As well as the stunning scenery this is a rural region of pretty towns and villages. The ten day Niagara ice wine Festival is held every January with plenty of wine related events. Another speciality of the region is helicopter wine tours, it’s a good way to make the most of the stunning scenery, including the Niagara Escarpment, home of the falls, and ensure you’re taken seriously at the cellar door, nothing says I need to be looked after properly like a waiting helicopter: www.attractionsniagara.ca/niagara-helicopt...
