The guides boast that Mauritius has more than 300 windy days a year, it also has a very flat, shallow, sandy lagoon at Le Morne. Trade winds generally blow across the island from east to southeast and are at their best from May to September, but are still felt during the rest of the year. Le Morne's lagoon offers flat water and is a good place to learn to windsurf. Beyond the reef that surrounds the lagoon are several good big wave spots, with patches for both beginner riders and experienced freestylers. Le Morne's shallow lagoon is also popular with kitesurfers.
