With a long, sweeping, pale sandy beach, shallow, quiet water, consistent winds and only five mins from the airport it is no wonder El Yaque is the first stop for many windsurfers arriving in Venezuela. El Yaque is a sunny spot with powerful shore-side trade winds, a mile of sandy beach and flat, metre deep water for long stretches along the beach, making it an ideal place to windsurf. Wind speed is usually between 15 and 30 knots and water temperature is between 21 and 27 degrees. On peak days there can be a thousand windsurfers in the water, partly because it's warm enough and conditions are good enough to stay in all day. If you're looking for bigger waves there are spots further off the coast.
