Gran Canaria is a great spot for wave riding - it has good wind conditions for most of the year, with strong winds during the summer months between September and May. The best windsurfing spots are on the south side of the island near Maspalomas. Maspalomas also has fine sand dunes and a long stretch of beach, good for lots of other water sports and is located close to the islands biggest water park. It is quite touristy and the beach can be very busy at peak times.
