Reindeer Sledding in Norway

Reindeer sledding is a magnificent way to explore the wild, snowy beauty of Norway, and you would be quite forgiven for feeling that this is what Christmas ought really to be about. However, this romantic mode of transport is also inextricably tied to Norway's indigenous Sami heritage. A holiday in this largely untouched area of northern wilderness can open up a new cultural world, born out of adaptation to an extreme environment full of challenges set by nature, which infiltrates everything from the food to the local legends. Reindeer herding was one of the main traditional Sami livelihoods, so you can expect to eat them as well as be carried by them; roast reindeer and smoked reindeer hearts are two local specialities that are bound to appear on your menu. As well as reindeer mustering, lassoing and riding, you can also test some traditional snow shoes, go ice fishing, watch the northern lights and picnic round a campfire next to your igloo.
