On lots of people’s to do list, the Great Ocean Walk along Victoria’s spectacular and dramatic west coast. Prepare for all kinds of coastal scenery from beaches to forest gullies and bare rocky cliffs and good access to Victoria’s bird life and wildlife. Starting at Apollo Bay with it’s stunning beach some of the other highlights, in order of position on the track not of importance, are Blanket Bay on the section passing through the Otway National Park, the towering cliffs of Castle Cove, also of archaeological interests, Joanna Beach, one of Victoria’s best surfing beaches and Wreck Beach, littered with the wrecks of two 19th century tea clippers. If you know anything about Victoria you will note the omission in the above of the truly spectacular Twelve Apostles, probably the main reason for starting this walk and at the tail end of the 100kms by Glenample Homestead. The Walk has been designed so that you can come in or out at a lot of different places and stages (it passes through towns etc.) so choose your length. Running roughly by the Great ocean Road it’s easy to get into the more remote sections as well. There are seven campsites along the route, all with basic facilities, evenly spaced for a complete trip.
