Mauna Loa

See more Volcanoes. Near to Kilauea (32.97 km) in United States.

Mauna Loa (“Long Mountain”) is the world’s largest mountain in terms of volume – a whopping 40,000 cubic km! It last erupted in 1984. The slopes of this classic shield volcano are so gentle after a million years of highly fluid lava flows that you may not even recognize it as a mountain despite its great height and bulk. The vast summit caldera can be reached by a rugged jeep track.
