Cotopaxi is a perfect Fuji-like cone some 19,400 feet high that is widely known as “the world’s highest active volcano.” Cotopaxi hasn’t actually erupted in a century, but the fumaroles in its crater generate a small steam plume so it does look slightly active. Cotopaxi presents a spectacular sight on clear days and is a popular mountain to climb. Ice axe and crampons needed.
