‘One of the world's most active volcanoes’
Arenal is another of the world’s most active volcanoes, though it has slowed down a bit lately. Arenal has been erupting daily since 1968, sometimes violently. The eruptions can be far more vigorous than Yasur or Stromboli, so DO NOT attempt to climb Arenal (the few who attempted this were killed, or in my case, nearly killed). Occasional pyroclastic flows have even killed visitors who were watching the mountain from what they thought was a safe distance away from the base. When Arenal is acting up, its booming eruptions viewed at night make for a truly incredible display, with innumerable volcanic bombs sailing across the sky and down the mountainside accompanied by a tremendous cacophony of sound. The nearby Tabacon hot springs can be enjoyed while watching the eruptions.

‘Active Arenal’
Arenal is a another good choice if you want to see an active volcano. It has Stromboli type eruptions which are fantastic to watch, especially at night because the lava lights up the surrounds and the rocks seem to glow and pulsate. You can also swim in springs heated by Arenal’s molten lava.
