Wiener Prater

See more Visitor Attractions. See best of Vienna in Austria.

Whether you think of the amusement park from the Third Man, now much updated, or of the long avenues of trees, shown bare in so many photos, Vienna’s Wiener Prater has an iconic park status similar to Central Park.

A private, walled hunting ground for the Emperor, the park was given to the people ‘for public enjoyment’ in 1766. The ‘Third Man’s’ ferris wheel is still here and in colour you can see the cabins are a cheerier red. This is the original one erected in 1896 so a historic attraction in its own right. For more than historic thrills there are new fangled rides, but also meadows and tree lined avenue for that old fashioned park experience.
