The Parador de Santa Catalina

See more Visitor Attractions. See best of Jaén in Spain.

The Parador de Santa Catalina was built in 1965 as a replica of the 13th century

Arabic fortress. It's impressive, waving flags greet your entry to the cobbled courtyard of the Parador, go in for coffee under the mighty 20m high vaulted ceiling.

Then take a walk along the cobbles to the castle entrance, now a tourist interpretation centre, which is worth a look around, and follow the walkway to the enormous white monumental cross at the egde of the elongated hill.

From the cross the whole city can be seen in a glance, silvery green olive

trees marching into the distance, the enormous Renaissance cathedral by

Vandelvira, Moorish rooftops and on a clear day the peaks of Granada's

Sierra Nevada.
