Aaahhh... Aren't they just the cutest and cuddliest looking of all the bears with their big furry ears, downy pelts and friendly looking faces. Some Japanese tourists come to Australia just to see a koala, they're that cute. You may see one in the wild but they tend to spend most of their days asleep after gorging themselves into a stupor on eucalyptus leaves which are the only thing they can eat but also keep them in a slightly druggy state. If your intentions are a bit more physical there are a few places where you can hold and have your photo taken with a koala, and the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is one of these, as well as being Australia's oldest koala sanctuary. At Lone Pine each koala only gets 30 minutes of handling a day, which hopefully keeps them sweet tempered, but they're much more agressive than they look. Other Australian critters swell the cast but the koalas are definitely the stars. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary Website
