Home to some of England’s most treasured and celebrated traditions, the Horse Guards Parade is the spot for getting a picture of grand-old traditional England. The Horse Guards Parade is something that, as a Londoner, you’re well aware of but never really bothered by. It’s the site of the Trooping of the Colour, a horse-prancing-in-patterned-unison and musical spectacular, held annually to celebrate the monarch’s official birthday, shown by the BBC and woven into the fabric of British life. Though I have grown up with this going on and it seems rather silly, I do appreciate its appeal to visitors. The shows that the Horse Guards Parade showcases are great traditional spectacles and there is still a sense of pride attached to them that means that even though I’m not down there waving a Union Jack all the time, their absence would be missed. For many, the shows epitomize the Britain of old, respectful pride with a nod towards the military services that still has am impact upon British life.
