Some of Budapest’s most beautiful buildings were destroyed in the siege of the Second World War and the Gellért Thermal Baths were one of them, though they have been rebuilt in the same elegant image of white columns and raised atrium, reminiscent of a flooded lobby of an Art Nouveau hotel. The advertised healing, thermal waters flow down from the Gellért Hills and have been a popular dip for tourists and convalesce-ers since the 13th Century. The waters contain a mix of minerals and are directed into two stylish baths, like mosaic decorated pools, one 36 degrees and one 38 degrees. The modern complex also has saunas, plunge pools, an out door pool with artificial waves and offers treatments and (naked) massages. The baths are part of a hotel now, and hotel guests get the best service, the main problem seems to be the language barrier and lack of signs in English, so be prepared to see a few confused faces.
