Tiny, bright Hong Kong lays out before you when you’re standing on Victoria Peak, it’s the first thing most people want to do when they arrive - survey their new surroundings, and has become Hong Kong’s most popular tourist attraction. Visitor numbers equal facilities and two major shopping and entertainment centres have been built to keep the tourists happy.

A radio tower has been built on the very summit but the closest you can get to it is Victoria Peak Gardens, done up in a blend of traditional Chinese and Victorian style, part of the Governor’s old summer house.

The peak has always been a hub of luxury, it’s elevation means that as well as the views people who live up here get the cooling breezes and people living below sweat it out in the moist sub-tropical summers (obviously this was a larger factor pre-air-conditioning.). Where once you needed flunkies to carry you up the peak - or else you had to use your legs, now you can use the tram or funicular to take you up the 45+ degree slope.
