Film stars and other celebrities may have more glamorous errands to run than the rest of us but they still have to go to work and get a hair cut and many choose to dine and party in glamorous places so there is a good chance that Hollywood star spotting will pay off, especially with the guides that exist to help you. A first step for star spotters is to spot the stars you can be certain you’ll see - the ones on the sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard’s ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame”. More than 2,000 stars - both real and fictional, have been honoured in the form of labelled, pink five pointed inserts into this hallowed pavement by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for their contribution to the film industry. This practice began in 1960 with Joanne Woodward (who knows what she made of the idea of having her name walked all over…) and 2,499 blank stars, and now boasts such names as Bob Hope, Kermit the Frog and Humphrey Bogart. If you have a NON-PERMANENT marker handy you could give yourself a star (briefly) but beware, it costs the honouree US$25,000 to have the star looked after… Guide to Seeing Stars in Hollywood
