Camping rafts in the Netherlands

If ever there was a chance to rescue the credibility of the waterbed, this is it. These retro ripples of water have long since had a relationship with the impractical, where some of the most ungraceful exits have been made and where the word kitsch is usually dismissed and replaced by a 70s laced scene, populated by disco balls and chest wigs. Why then, should the evolution of the waterbed be encouraged? The answer lies in the Netherlands. After a short canoe up stream, choose from one of four locations and climb aboard a camping raft, safely moored to a river bank in Marnemoende, De Heen, De Wissen, and De Clayepol. So far, so good. No embarrassing falls or unexpected dips in duvet. Next, put your bags down and observe your raft. Mattresses, seats, camping stoves, gas lamps, all under an A-frame timber shelter. The common waterbed, it seems, has a new guise. Fish from your bedroom, go swimming, gaze out onto the expansive countryside before you, canoe to the nearest foot path and explore the best of the Netherlands and Belgium. The concept of sleeping on water has opened many new doors.
