Rimu
14-day multisport trip taking you off-the-beaten-track for amazing hiking, biking, sea kayaking and snorkelling.

It is a hard question, but I know that when my friends come to visit from overseas, they don't want to go for a walk, they want an adventure. And if I want to impress them, I take them over Rabbit Pass.
The route begins in the small town of Makarora and usually takes four to five days to get to the road in the Matukituki Valley. In between the track is never the same long. From temperate rain forest, open river flats, steep gorges and high alpine meadows surrounded by glaciers, this route combines all the terrain that makes New Zealand famous. But like any good adventure, success on Rabbit Pass is not guaranteed. Several sections are steep and exposed and hikers must be fit and comfortable with heights and the weather gods must decide you are worthy. Rabbit Pass is classed as a "route" not a "track" meaning that some parts are either not marked or are not maintained. River crossings are frequent and with no huts after the first night, hikers need to be experienced and self sufficient.
