‘K2 Base Camp and Gondogoro La’
I’ve been fortunate to do this trek twice (well almost- bad weather resulted in a retreat on one occasion). It really is a stunning trek if you have the necessary (basic) skills with crampons and ice axe for the La (pass). From Islamabad you can reach Skardu by air (with an exciting landing!) or by a two drive along the Karakorum Highway. The journey from Skardu to Askole is by “jeep” – assuming the road hasn’t been washed away which it frequently has! The journey from Askole onwards is on foot but I guarantee you will enjoy every moment of it, despite it being fairly busy. A limited number of trekkers tackle the route from Concordia over the Gondogora La, simply reversing the route back to Askole. If you have read any mountain literature at all you will relish seeing many of the Peaks that have featured in those books!
