The trek to Gokyo Ri is a popular alternative or add-on to the Everest Base Camp/Kalapattar trek. After Namche Bazaar, instead of continuing up the Dudi Khosi valley you turn left up the Gokyo valley, eventually passing a series of lovely high altitude lakes before reaching the settlement of Gokyo. Here are a number of lodges and restaurants catering to trekkers. An early morning start is advised for the ascent of Gokyo Ri, which offers a more distant view of Everest than Kalapattar but also provides good views of more of the world's highest mountains, including Cho Oyu and Makalu. Altitude sickness is more common on this trek than the Everest Base Camp one due to the more rapid ascent so be careful.

Our trek begins at the heart of the Khumbu valley and proceeds in to the Gokyo valley on the 'off the beaten track'. We make our way up to the Gokyo lakes returning on a slightly different route.
