Widely regarded as the world's most exclusive train, and certainly one of the most famous, The Royal Scotsman cossets and spoils in traditional Scottish style with tea in bone china and crisp linen. It winds its way up into the Highlands to Inverness from Edinburgh and offers a variety of trips, from 2 to 7 days.
The train's maroon livery is almost as famous as the lochs and glens and ancient battlefields it passes. You get a large slice of nostalgia along with your scones - at a price.
