Almost a hundred years old, this route guides its no-nonsense trains from Martigny in Switzerland up and down the Alpine slopes at some surprising angles on a journey of less than three hours, opening up a world of snow-capped peaks and plunging waterfalls and ravines. Crossing the Trient Gorge and running below the huge dam of Emosson, the train continues past Mont Blanc into France, and on up to Chamonix.
