Wat Sisaket
See more Buddhist. See best of Vientiane in Thailand.

One of the most interesting things about this temple are the interior walls of the cloisters and hallways which have more than 2000 small arch shaped grottos cut into them which house small silver and ceramic statues of Buddha. 300 or so larger statues in wood and bronze line the hall floor below the grottos. The outside of the temple references the Siamese school of Buddhist temple building with ornate five tiered roofs. Stupas and shrines belonging to the temples devotees fill the garden surrounding it. The first Buddhist temple stood on this spot around the middle of the 16th Century but the current building, and its thick protective walls dates from the beginning of the 19th Century. On Lane Xang Road.
