Hong Kong’s Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery is a 20th century addition to China’s many, incredible Buddhist temples. Construction was completed in 1957, and the result was a complex consisting of a pagoda, a veranda, four pavilions, and five distinct temples. It’s interesting to note that the monastery’s name is actually rather modest, as there are in fact 12,800 unique Buddha statues adorning the walls. Also, a new addition of 500 plastic Arhans, covered in gold leaf, was added in 2002.
