This was the first Buddhist monastery to be established in Mongolia, built in 1585 when Buddhism became the main religion. Stones from Genghis Khan’s ruined capital were used in it’s construction to build 108 stupas, 62 temples and surrounding wall, but this was decimated in the 1930’s and only three temples and the wall remain, now a museum.
