Ancient buildings of the Wudang Mountains

See more Temples. Near to Shiyan (28.93 km) in China.

Old Taoist monasteries and schools of martial arts and meditation cling to the foliage-tangled cliffs and rocky outcrops of the Wudang Mountains, but well before their arrival, the deep red, pagoda-roofed, Five Dragon Temple was built under the rule of the Tang Dynasty. Further temples, such as the Nanyan Temple (filled with naturalistic iron statues) and the Golden Hall (built entirely of gilded copper), and a number of palaces were added to form the Wudang complex during the Ming Dynasty. Today they collectively represent one of China's best examples of historic fine art and architecture.
