Surfing Lobos and Fuerteventura
See more Surfing. See best of Spain

Fuerteventura’s coast has good heavy waves for all standards and plenty of schools to learn to surf if you haven’t before. My personal favourite spot is Lobos, a right hand reef break which was long and fast when I was there, but you can surf right out in front of the harbour at Carralejo. It’s also good weather and warm water which makes learning to surf losda more fun. Locals tend to know about good spots, some of them aren’t even named and don’t have roads to them so it’s good to base yourself somewhere but then be prepared to go out and have a good reccy for the best waves on the day or get a guide who knows how to get to best spots, hire a four wheel drive if you can. Go out in the morning and late afternoon to take advantage of the best conditions, the swell comes in and out. I surfed both shallow reef and beach breaks. Most of the consistent spots are on the north west coastline. The swell season lasts from September to March, but you can surf here all year if you want to - it’s supposed to be awesome at Christmas.
