Surfing around Noordhoek, Cape Town

See more Surfing. See best of Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

There are about five really good surfing spots around Noordoek, which is on the cold western side - so you need a full wetsuit and maybe even booties and a hoodie, you may look like an alien, but you’ll be glad. Long Beach - a long beach - and Outer Kom are probably the best big wave spots, you can get a pretty hollow wave, and the Inner Koms inshore and round the corner are smaller and faster. Some of the good spots can only be reached by hiking across the marshes or sand dunes which keeps the numbers down. If you’re a beginner you can still surf around Noordhoek, you just need to ask around the surf schools for the best safe spots. Also keep an eye out for sharks…
