Nahoon Reef Surfing
See more Surfing. See best of Eastern Cape in South Africa.

This is another big famous South African wave, because it’s big and famous it is also busy and you need to be an experienced surfer to get a look in. If you’re travelling through at either end of the season and you’ve got a bit of time it’s probably your best bet to have a look in here during the week, don’t bother with the weekends. It’s a massive right point break offering rides of up to 400+ metres when it gets going, 200+ on a regular day. The water is cold and sharky and the wind direction can be a bit unpredictable so it just depends if you like that sort of buzz or not. It says it in the name that it’s a reef so you need to mind your feet and other body parts and be prepared to paddle out past the worst of it. The rip can be big, so you can drop in the back or in the front, but leave it to the most experienced guys.
