Hayfever suffers run now! Lawn mower racing is becoming more and more popular, with competitors riding their little self-propelled speed chasers round tracks. To turn lawn mowing into a sport has to be the work of people with too much time on their hands, or in other words, gardeners. However, the sport actually started when a group of young men in a pub (stage of many a bright idea) bemoaning the prohibitive costs of getting into motorsport. From these inauspicious beginnings grew the British Lawn Mowing Racing Association and races were soon underway. The idea was transported over to America, where races such as the Twelve Mile 500, based in Indiana. This cult classic sees spectators from all over the mid-west of America converging at twelve mile to watch what is always an entertaining and exciting race. It is unclear whether they can do private events on your own lawn.
