The Dubai World Cup is encapsulated by one fact; it is the world’s richest horse race with a purse of US$ 6 million going to the winner. The brainchild of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai World Cup is a fitting tribute to his love of horses and of horseracing, but depending on your views you are either going to be bowled over by the event or abhorred by the decadency. The International Village is a great place to soak up the atmosphere, with food and drink available as well as a host of large screens bringing the racing action. The Style Arena and Bubble Lounge are also to be found in the ticket-entry Village. The Millennium Terrace offers dining that overlooks the course and is where reserved race seats are. Just outside of the ‘Richest men’s playground’ the Dubai World Cup was always going to be an illustrious affair, but the vision and money of its creator is something to behold. The track is state of the art, but some may find the flat course slightly tame…though the amount of money at stake is enough to inject excitement into the races.
