Originally called Norodom Palace and built by French invaders in the late 19th century, Reunification Palace is now an important Vietnamese landmark. It was the site where the Saigon Government of South Vietnam officially surrendered to the revolutionaries on April 30, 1975, signifying a dawn of independence and unification for many elated Vietnamese citizens. The palace now functions as a sort of memorial and museum, displaying an abundance of war paraphernalia.
