With its glam bars, iconic restaurant, sleek rooms and constant people parade, this is the hippest place to be - and be seen - in Melbourne

The neighbourhood of St. Kilda started as a seaside refuge for down-at-heel bohemian types. Now it's the trendiest part of town – Melbourne's answer to Bondi – whose buzzing beaches draw a young and funky set for drinking, dining and partying.

Stay at The Prince and you can have all three without leaving the hotel. Behind its unremarkable Art Deco facade you'll find one of the city's hottest restaurants, an Italian-style pavement café, a 'bandroom' which is the epicentre of dance music, and a choice of 2 drinking dens: a classic, gay-glam pub or a slinky, pink-lit vodka bar. And yet it never feels crowded. The Zen-like minimalism of its 40 rooms, with their timeless designer furnishings, will soothe any spirit. And the natural treatments at the day-spa will ease the most recalcitrant jet-lag away. There's also an achingly stylish indoor pool and deck overlooking St. Kilda - though of course you are only minutes from the beach, and steps away from shops and bars galore. It feels like you have found Melbourne's inner sanctum of cool.
