Reasonably-priced contemporary city hotel perfectly placed by Valencia's lively port Fresh, fun and functional, the Room Mate Marina is in a prime location opposite Valencia’s revamped and revitalized port. But the 42 rooms all face away from the traffic that runs alongside the harbour and onto a couple of quiet plazas with palm trees and a church – you're close to both the buzz of the new Valencia and the tranquility of the old. Opened in 2006, the hotel has definite designer flair – swirls of silver filigree, frosted glass and boldly coloured walls are consistent throughout. There’s a groovy little bar on the ground floor with outdoor seating and a Jacuzzi on the roof terrace. Guests are a mix of businessmen, families and tourists – when we stayed there was a friendly gang of Chelsea football fans who had come to see their team play Valencia C.F., one of the top teams in Spain (Chelsea won, which was perhaps why they were in such good spirits!).
