Back-to-nature beachfront cabanas for romantic couples, with indulgent spa treatments and open-air bathtubs

If you've always dreamed of escaping to a simple beachfront cabana on the Caribbean, with only the murmur of waves to lull you to sleep and the sound of birds to wake you, then you'll love Azulik. It's a small eco-resort of 15 hardwood cabins, with large decks open to the ocean on one side, and floor-to-ceiling windows looking junglewards on the other. There's no mains electricity, but there is plenty of rustic charm, not to mention exotic treatments (massage, mud wraps, a 'sweat lodge') and other activities. Explore the coral reefs in a kayak, hike through tropical forest in search of spider monkeys, discover Mayan ruins, or just get back to nature.

You can also get back to nature in another sense: this is an adults-only resort, where clothing is 'optional'. But there's no pressure to go au naturel, and most guests wear sarongs on the beach. One place you might want to indulge, though, is the double-sized, open-air bathtub; each cabana has one, and soaking in the sunset with a glass of bubbly and a loved one is a moment to savour.
