Turkish powder:Heli-skiing the Kackar Range

If you’ve done any heli-skiing before you probably liked the idea of being on your own and in a more natural setting that the groomed slopes of the big resorts? That’s what you get in Turkey’s Kackar Mountains. It’s still a small and expensive sport, even somewhere fairly cheap like Turkey, but the terrain you’re skiing on is worth the cost and you’ll appreciate it when there is only your own group around you. The main pick up point is the Ayder Plateau and the droop off is the peak, which makes sense considering the company who runs it is selling packages in vertical metres. I haven’t got to the description bit yet because I’m savouring the images in my head. It’s powder and it’s smooth and it’s remote and interesting and challenging - the off piste terrain of your dreams.

It’s only been going here for a few years so they’re still working out the best runs. Exciting stuff.
