Mount Hermon is the highest peak in both Israel and Syria and is Israel's only ski resort. It is located in the north of Israel and is not far from Nazareth. The mountain appears unexpectedly and grandly from the mostly flat terrain and once at the top, there are amazing views of Lebanon, Galilee, and Golan. Despite its small size the resort offers 14 slopes and has excellent off-piste activities for experienced skiers. There is the chance for both adults and children to have lessons, and refreshments and snacks are offered on site. All the slopes add up to a total of 28 miles and this of course extends as you go off piste. The season runs from December to April and due to its singularity in Israel, it can get pretty crowded so be prepared to get there early if you need to rent equipment or want to get a couple of good runs. The resort doesn't offer accommodation on site but the nearby town of Neve Ativ has a wide selection of restaurants, bars, and hotels. Although it isn't for world-class skiers it’s definitely a different and interesting choice for a skiing holiday. It’s an area steeped in history and all of this is on your doorstep once you're finished with the slopes.
