Realising the massive popularity of skiing and the vast, breathtaking spaces in the North of India, the country has invested a lot of time and money into ski resorts. These resorts are some of the best in the world, and what better way to enjoy high altitude fun better than in the awe-inspiring Himalayas. The resort of Auli is around 2,500 – 3,000m high and a firm favourite among more experienced skiers, with warm sun year round and magnificent views. The top slopes offer a 180º panoramic view of Himalayan peaks like the Nanda Devi, which stands at an impressive 7,817m. The chair lifts are at peak efficiency and visitors can be taken up to the top of the nearest slope in minutes. Once there you can glide or speed to the bottom or simply stroll down the various paths taking in the emerald forests that line the way. The area also offers a multitude of other activities, from the sacred site of Badrinath to the Valley of Flowers. With so much on offer it’s easy to see why the resort has become such a favourite with the Bollywood set. It’s easy to get carried away in this a skier’s paradise – little known outside of India - and a great option for the more adventurous skier.
