Zambia's South Luangwa is regarded as the home of the walking safari. The difference in the Luangwa Valley is that you can do your gameviewing on foot, tracking big game and getting pretty close sometimes too. Most other Parks in Africa that offer walking safaris prefer to show you the animals from a vehicle and concentrate on the smaller things whilst walking.
There are a number of larger Lodges in the Luangwa but the best experiences are to be gained whilst in the smaller remote bushcamps. These bushcamps, most of which are seasonal, will concentrate on walking safaris, although vehicles are used as well. You will feel as though you have your own private corner of Africa, which in many ways you do. The wildlife is abundant which contrasts pleasantly with the lack of other humans, although Zambia and the Luangwa are becoming much more popular these days there is still a feeling of privelage that one gets in the Luangwa, knowing that very few are lucky enough to share this experience. Norman Carr is the originator of this now very popular concept.
