Since 1845, the Rio Grande has formed part of the border between the United States of America and Mexico and there are a lot of literary references to it in this capacity. Beginning in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains and joining the sea in the Gulf of Mexico, the Rio Grande is too difficult for anything but a small craft to navigate.
