Like the Ganges, the lower area of the Brahmaputra is sacred to Hindus. It passes through the Jamalpur and Mymensingh districts on its way to the Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta, the worlds largest river delta and one of the earths most fertile regions, and joins the ocean via the Bay of Bengal. The delta is home to a wide variety of plant and animal life.
