Sohanak
See more Restaurant. See best of Tehran in Iran.
|
Sohanak is a hilltop village northeast of Tehran now practically part of the sprawling northern part of town. It has recently become fashionable to go hiking through the village and its mountainous environs and there is a proliferation of outdoor restaurants as a result. In another world they would be Ibiza-style outdoor clubs but for now, Tehranis come to eat and smoke and enjoy the cool, clean mountain air. It is best to come on a summer’s evening, stroll up through the dusty path of the village and pick one of the restaurants perched on the edge of the mountain. All serve the usual roster of kebabs and Persian rice and stew dishes and all feature Persian carpet covered day beds on which to lounge. After your meal, order dark sweet tea and a shishe (ghalyoon in Farsi) and look down over the whole of Tehran and its blinking lights laid out like an elaborate carpet beneath you.
