Meaning place of Mopani trees, Kapani was built in 1986 by Norman Carr himself as his own home, Kapani remained a private house until he died in 1997. Today his home his been transformed into a 10 roomed lodge on the banks of a hippo and croc filled lagoon beside the Luangwa river. A thatched building in the centre of the camp is home to the lounge and library - a place where guests can gather for pre-dinner drinks around an open fire. The bar and dining area are set out on a raised wooden decking area overlooking the lagoon under the shade of a canopy of trees (cheeky baboons and vervets included). The 8 standard rooms spare no expense for space, high ceilings accentuate the size of each room, complete with en suite bathrooms, lounge area and bar/fridge. The two lagoon houses, Kapani's best rooms are very similar in style but are detached, even more spacious and perfect for honeymooners. Game often come down to the lagoon in dry months and elephants are often found in the camp.
