Chobe Chilwero
See more Lodges and Ranches. See best of Zimbabwe
|
Located on the Northern tip of Chobe National Park lies the 15 cottages of Chobe Chilwero, set high up on the escarpment, the lodge commands fantastic views over the Chobe River, offering the perfect retreat from which to view some of Africa’s most spectacular sunsets setting over the Namibian plains. Said to be one of the most enchanting places on earth; the location of this lodge is unparalleled in the area; the views are simply breathtaking. Your stay is in the most luxurious thatched cottages set in private gardens, each with its own sundowner veranda looking out over the river below. The rooms are stunning with huge beds, inside and outside showers and vast sunken handcrafted baths that literally take half an hour to fill (and can fit two people side by side!). Silver service and a la carte gourmet dinners are just a taste of the standards this lodge aspires to. The wine menu, obviously hugely South African is one of the best in the country and is equally matched by the quality of the food, the standards of service and the genuine friendliness of the staff. This opulent luxury is what Chobe Chilwero is all about and for this reason, the lodge is a luxury retreat rather than an authentic safari lodge. The safari itself is scheduled to the requirements of the guests, giving the option of a morning or afternoon on the river itself or a game drive with excellent guides deep into the National Park. The chance to see Africa’s largest concentration of elephants is a major attraction to the area (and can often be done from camp) but the marine life is exceptional with large numbers of hippos and buffalos constantly crossing the river and birds burrowing into the banks. Game drives into Chobe itself reveal the predators, especially lion, hunting the antelope and defending their lands.
