La Amistad which straddles into Panama is hemmed in on most of it’s borders by other parks and reserves giving it a feel of being much larger and more remote than it is. Within the parks borders are a range of habitats from tropical lowland rainforest to cloud forests. Some parts of the park have yet to be properly charted but within it are several reserves where some of the rainforests indigenous tribes still live. New plant species have been discovered here and botanists anticipate finding more when they explore further into the park. A range of creatures live within the forest including Jaguars, Puma, Margays, Oncillas, Ocelots, Paccaries, Sloths, Armadillos, deer, Pacas, Coatis and several monkey species. There are walking trails through La Amistad and there is one camping ground.
