Never having incorporated a single dangling cork since their 1874 origination in Hobart, Tasmania, Akubra hats are the epitome of a national institution. They are carefully crafted from rabbit felt using a unique procedure (as described in 'from bunny to brow' on the Akubra website,) which results in a high level of durability and a natural finish, giving each hat great 'one-off' quality. There are more than a hundred different styles, many with wonderful tourist appeal (such as the 'Territory', which gives one the subtle air of a crocodile hunter,) but try something along the lines of the 'Cattleman' for a taste of the traditional - as close to a real stockman's hat as you'll ever find.
