St. Stephen’s Green is located at one end of Grafton Street, a famous shopping area; at the other end is Trinity College. Despite its close proximity to this shopping district, St Stephen’s Green maintains its sense of peace and tranquillity. This park is perfect for a family picnic to get away from the busy streets of Dublin, with its wide-open spaces and duck ponds, but it does lack any facilities catering purely for children. However, it does feature a garden for the blind with flowers specifically chosen for their strong scents and ability to withstand handling; all the labels are also written in Braille. The park is also a favourite among literary fans with its bust of Dubliner James Joyce and a memorial garden dedicated to Irish poet, W.B.Yeats. The garden features the Fusiliers Arch, which commemorates the Irish soldiers that died during the second Boer War; there is also a fountain featuring the Three Fates donated by the Germans to the Irish to thank them for their help with refugees post-WWII. St. Stephen’s Green has lakes fed by the Grand Canal, which make excellent settings for romantic walks. However, this area is unsafe after dark and so it is advised that you plan your visit so you are not in the vicinity after dusk.
