A fabulous tour of an unspoilt part of the United Kingdom rich in castles, history and a landscape covered with farming valleys, rolling hills and sweeping bays.

7 days, from £2917 (Tailor made trip). IExplore »

Cut off from the mainland by a channel ravaged by strong currents, Skomer Island is protected from most predators and has become a vast nesting ground for a huge range of birds.

There are 6,000 Puffin breeding pairs and 165,000 Manx Shearwater pairs, along with Razorbills, Great Black-backed Gulls and Kittiwakes who make Skomer Island their permanent home. Migratory birds such as Skylarks, Finches, Golden Orioles, Black Storks and Tawny Pipits also visit Skomer on their annual journeys.

This island is windblown, rocky and treeless which suits these burrow nesting birds and a large community of rabbits (not considered a predator or competitor) have riddled the island with tunnels, which many of the birds adapt for their own use.

As well as birds, Skomer supports a large population of seals, dolphins and porpoises. Preservation officers are the only human inhabitants now, however the remains of an Iron Age community which supported around 200 people can be seen on the island.

Visitors can visit the island between April and October.
