There aren’t many Giant Pandas left, it’s a sorry state when such a charming and docile animal is becoming extinct, but these sanctuaries are doing their best to support the limited remaining population and deserve the support of anyone who proclaims to like Pandas. This region umbrellas multiple individual reserves and parks including the Wolong Nature Reserve and the Mt. Siguniang Reserve and the Chengdu Breeding Centre which is where you can visit them. At Chengdu the Pandas enjoy some freedom in large ‘open’ enclosures, and you can see their beyond cute babies in the nursery.
As well as providing protection for about a third of the world’s remaining Pandas, the Sichuan Sanctuaries also cover areas where snow leopards and red pandas live, including them under the umbrella.
After visiting the centre at Chengdu arrange a walk through the region. It is highly unlikely you’ll see a panda but you’ll see their decreasing natural habitat which is also endangered!
